Track and Field Teams Turn in Personal Bests at Ben Brown Invite
FULLERTON, Calif. – The College of the Canyons track and field teams completed competition at the two-day Ben Brown Invite on Saturday afternoon and saw a handful of athletes turn in some of the best times in the state.
Sophomore Tim White won the long jump and triple jump in a field of 40 and 28 jumpers, respectively. White turned in a distance of 23-11 (7.29 meters) in the long jump, beating the second-place jumper by 10.5 inches, and he leaped 53-6 (16.00 meters) in the triple jump, leading the next finisher by almost three feet.
Sophomore Grant Stromberg won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:40.7, marking a new personal-best time. His time ranks him third in the state in the event. Freshman Rodrigo Ornelas came in first in his flight of the 5,000-meter run after crossing the line in 15:05.25.
Sophomore Laurie Henigan now has the third-best time in the state in the 100-meter hurdles after turning in a heat-winning run of 14.49.
Canyons will return to action on Friday, March 21 when they travel to the Easter Relays at Santa Barbara City College.
