Eight Cougars Qualify for CCCAA State Championships
COC track & field will send eight student-athletes to compete in six events at CCCAA State Championships, being held May 20-21 at San Diego Mesa College.
The COC track & field program will conclude its season with eight student-athletes headed to compete in six events at the CCCAA State Championships, being held May 20-21 at San Diego Mesa College.
Canyons had three student-athletes win regional titles during last week's CCCAA SoCal Regional Championships held at Antelope Valley College, to automatically qualify for the state meet.
Marissa Kneisel won the women's long jump with a mark of 5.64m, while Jessica Ruiz took first in the women's 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 11:55.54. Jason Hillquist took the title in the men's 3,000m steeplechase at 9:28.01.
Also competing in the women's steeplechase are Lizeth Flores, Amanda De Jesus and Chelsea Wells, who finished fourth, fifth and seventh, respectively, at the SoCal finals.
Ruiz and De Jesus will also compete in the 5,000m, along with teammate Alexandra Whitman.
Likewise, Whitman also qualified in the 10,000m event which took place on Friday.
Kaitlyn Matthews will compete in the women's high jump after finishing second in SoCal with a leap of 1.66m.
