Canyons Track & Field Competes at CSULA Invitational

One week removed from sweeping the first conference meet of the season, the College of the Canyons track & field program participated in the California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA) Invitational on Saturday, with the Cougars holding their own against a field that also included student-athletes representing four-year schools. 

COC sophomore Kaitlyn Matthews finished first in the high jump after clearing 1.64m to highlight the Cougars' day.

Fellow sophomore Dana Bowers recorded a fourth place distance of 11.52m in the shot put, and also ranked eighth in the javelin at 31.89m.

Ariana Cooper was sixth in the 400h (1:08.55) and 15th in the 100h (16.07).

In the 5,000m, the trio of Jessica Ruiz (18:36.89), Shalyn Mabritto (18:39.67) and Alexandra Whitman (19:05.86) finished second, third and fifth, respectively.

The men's 4x400m relay team of Tochukwe Eze, Travis Larson, Slade Cavallaro and Blake Beeler clocked a time of 3:25.50 to finish in fourth place.

Eze also took 12th in the 400m at a time of 51.50.

Zachary Larson finished 11th in the 400h at 58.17 and high jumper David Canchola was 11th with a leap of 1.87m.

Canyons will next compete at the Oxy Distance Carnival Spring Break Classic hosted by Occidental College on Friday, March 10.
