Cougars Compete with Four-Year Schools at Redlands Invitational

REDLANDS — College of the Canyons took part in the University of Redlands Invitational on Friday amongst an array of four-year schools and community college programs from across the state and western region.
The Lady Cougars found their strength in distance with sophomore Milca Osorio placing 10th in both the 800m (2:29.51) and 1500m (5:05.54). Osorio was followed by Emily Cruz and Maylani Perez. Cruz took 29th place in the 800m (2:43.86) and 25th in the 1500m (5:37.76) while Maylani took 37th (2:47.84) and 19th (5:34.27).
COC sophomore Trinity Winslow was 17th in the 100h recording a time of 18.18, with Samantha Rodriguez on her heals, snagging the 18th position at 18.25.
Rodriguez and Winslow went on to represent Canyons in the 400m hurdles as well, with Rodriguez clocking a time of 1:11.77 for a ninth-place finish. This time it was Winslow barely behind in 11th at a time of 1:14.53.
On the men's side, Layne Buck worked sprints and jumps for the Cougars. The sophomore nabbed seventh place in the triple jump (13.12m/43'0.5") and 11th out of 30 in the long jump (6.53/21'5.25). He also claimed 29th place out of 88 runners in the 100m dash (11.40).
Also competing in the 100m, Canyons sophomore Simon Sampson claimed the 22nd spot with his time of 11.22.
Owen Strunk threw for a mark of 34.94m (114'7") in the javelin, good for 19th place. COC freshman Sam Regez showed up for the Cougars for the 800m taking 16th place, with a time of 1:59.78.
Winning the second heat of the 4x100m relay, the team of Kory Bacon, Buck, Christopher and Sampson clocked a time of 43.07, leaving them in seventh overall out of 12 teams.
