Canyons Gets Past Moorpark 57-52
Freshman Brittani Larry scores 22 points of the bench to lead the Cougs
MOORPARK, Calif. — College of the Canyons freshman Brittani Larry scored 22 points off the bench to help lead the Cougars to a 57-52 victory over Moorpark College in the second round of the 15th Annual Moorpark College Classic.
Despite the team shooting just over 43 percent from the field, Canyons was able to edge the Raiders behind Larry's hot shooting hand. The frosh forward finished the contest 10-of-14 from the field, while grabbing six rebounds and a steal.
The Cougars also dominated the boards, outrebounding Moorpark 44-24 for the game.
Sophomore forward Nayiri Aslanian collected a game-high 14 rebounds to finish with double-digit boards for the third straight game. On the season, Aslanian is averaging 8.6 rebounds per contest.
The Cougar defense also held Moorpark to only 28.8 percent shooting from the field for the game.
The win gives COC a 6-2 record on the season. The victory was also career win No. 501 for head coach Greg Herrick who reached the 500-win milestone the previous evening.
The Cougars will next play West Hills College Lemoore in the tournament's championship game at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
