COC Point Guard Marina Rojas Commits to St. Katherine College
Rojas, a two-time All Western State Conference (WSC) First Team selection, finished the 2016-17 season with six triple-doubles, while ranking fourth in the state with 6.3 assists per game.
College of the Canyons sophomore point guard Marina Rojas has committed to continue her playing career at St. Katherine's College.
St. Katherine's College, which will become University of St. Katherine in the fall, is located in San Marcos, California. The Firebirds compete on the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Division I level.
Rojas, a two-time All Western State Conference (WSC) First Team selection, finished the 2016-17 season with impressive numbers, while helping the Cougars to a third place conference finish.
Her 13.6 points and 9.2 rebounds per game were both second on the COC squad, while her mark of 6.3 assists each night led the WSC and ranked fourth in the state.
During WSC, South Division play the five-foot four-inch sophomore poured in 17.5 points, 8.8 assists and 10.3 rebounds each time she took the floor.
Rojas also recorded an impressive six triple-doubles on the season, including five straight to begin the conference schedule.
As a freshman, Rojas was a key member of the program's 2015-16 WSC, South championship team that finished the year 23-6 with a 13-1 mark in conference play.
"Marina has been a true warrior in every sense of the word," said COC women's basketball head coach Greg Herrick. "Whatever role we asked her to play, she did it without reservation and always put the team ahead of her individual goals.
"We're going to truly miss her contributions," added Herrick, "but are elated that she will be continuing her career at the next level."
A graduate of nearby Sylmar High School, where she was named valedictorian of her senior class, Rojas recently completed her associate degree and graduated as a member of the college's class of 2017.
