Former College of the Canyons women's basketball player Hannah Green has signed a professional contract with Wetterbygden Basket in the Swedish Damligan for the 2018-19 season. The signing was first announced by Slan Sports Management (SSM).

"I picked to play with the Wetterbygden Sparks because I felt it was the best place for me to develop as a player and a person," said Green. "I am excited to have the amazing opportunity to begin my professional career in such a beautiful country while continuing to act on my greatest potential."

Green played two seasons at COC before accepting a scholarship to Illinois State University after the 2015-16 campaign. In doing so she became the first COC women's basketball player to commit to an NCAAA Division I program since 2011.

As a sophomore, Green helped lead the Lady Cougars to a 23-6 overall record, a Western State Conference-South Division Championship and a berth in the California State Regional Playoffs.

She was named WSC, South Player of the Year and selected to the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) South Region All-State Second Team after averaging 14 points per game and pulling down 13.8 rebounds each night out, to rank third in the state in that category. She also shot an impressive 49.4 percent from the field.

But it was on the defensive end that Green was especially dominate.

The West Ranch High School graduate averaged an awe-inspiring 6.5 blocks per game to lead the state, beating the second place mark by 2.5 per game. Along the way Green recorded double-digit rebounding totals in 23 of COC's 28 games — including 13 games with at least 15 boards.

Green continued to excel after moving on to Illinois State.

As a senior, the six-foot forward averaged 12.5 points and six rebounds, to go with two blocks per contest, which lead the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) in that category. She also ranked eighth in scoring and ninth in rebounding to earn All-MVC First-Team honors. She leaves Illinois State as the No. 3 ranked shot blocker in program history.

Green now takes the next step by beginning a professional career in Sweden.

After a strong season in the Swedish BasketEttan, Wetterbygden earned a promotion to the Swedish Damligan and believes Green will be an impactful addition to the lineup.

"Our club is very happy to have signed Hannah and we are excited to see her in Sweden in August," said Wetterbydgen Head Coach, Francisco Pinto. "Hannah is going to fit into our system perfectly and we think her personality will make her a leader off the court as well."
