VISALIA — College of the Canyons played to a 1-2 record at the 46th Annual Gilcrest Tournament hosted by College of the Sequoias Dec. 1-3. COC was a 71-65 winner over Chabot College on the tourney's second day.
Canyons (4-3) sandwiched its lone tourney win between loses to host Sequoias (8-0) and Mt. San Antonio College (4-4).
The Cougars dropped the tournament opener by a lopsided 89-56 final score as COS limited Canyons to a 25.8 percent shooting percentage while forcing 22 turnovers.
COC was led by 13 points from Amiya Robinson while LuLu Salloom finished with 12 points and a game-high 15 rebounds in the losing effort.
Sequoias has four players finish in double figures with Camila Barreno coming off the bench to score a game-high 21 points for the Giants.

Day two action saw the Cougars overcome a four-point halftime deficit to claim a 71-65 win over Chabot College.
COC outscored Chabot 17-13 down the stretch to preserve the narrow victory. Salloom posted her most dominating performance of the season with 23 points and a career-high 28 rebounds, with eight coming off the offensive glass.
Monique Febles poured in 22 points on a 10-of-18 shooting night and also dished out seven assists. Natalie Satamian added 12 points, seven rebounds and a block as COC earned the hard-fought victory.
Chabot (3-8) received 26 points from Ariel Hines to keep pace with the Cougars but ultimately shot just better then 37 percent from the field as a team.

Canyons closed out the weekend with a disappointing 69-57 loss to Mt. San Antonio College on the tourney's final day.
The Mounties seized complete control of the game during a decisive third quarter in which the Cougars netted just eight points. Canyons battled back in the final frame to keep things close but couldn't get all the way back.
Febles was the scoring leader with 12 points and Satamian added 11 more to help in the attack. Hannah Tolentino came off the bench with nine points, two rebounds and a pair of steals. Salloom posted tewam high with five assists and 16 rebounds.
COC struggled from the field all game shooting just over 33 percent and a combined 15 percent from deep. Canyons was an efficient 15-of-17 from the foul line to add some needed points to its final total.
Mt. SAC had four of its starters finish in double figures topped by Briana Lizardi with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Upcoming Schedule
Canyons returns home to host Palo Verde College at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7 in the Cougar Cage. That game will be live streamed to fans free of charge on the Cougars Sports Network.
The Cougars will then be out of action until competing at the Glendale College Crossover Tournament Dec. 21-22. COC is slated to Rio Hondo College in the opener followed by Allan Hancock College on day two.
