Canyons Falls 58-36 in Conference Battle vs. L.A. Valley

College of the Canyons opened Western State Conference (WSC), South Division play with a 58-36 loss to the visiting Los Angeles Valley College Monarchs on Wednesday night in the Cougar Cage.
Canyons (6-8) had a sluggish first quarter, giving up 21 points and only putting down six points, curtesy of sophomore Natalie Satamian's two three-pointers.
The Monarchs (9-6) put heavy pressure on the Cougars from the start and never let up, leaving the COC trailing 33-20 at the half.
As the game progressed the Cougars continued to trail, never ultimately finding a rhythm despite efforts from top scorers LuLu Salloom and Hannah Tolentino.
Salloom put forth 40 minutes of work, recording 14 points and a total of 14 rebounds, five on the offensive side. Tolentino added 10 points and four rebounds to the effort.
The Cougars shot just 20.7 percent from the field compared to the Monarch's mark of 39.7 percent.

Upcoming Schedule
The Cougars continue conference play on the road facing off against Bakersfield College on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 3 p.m.
Canyons then heads back home to the Cougar Cage, Wednesday, Jan. 11 to host the Citrus College at 5 p.m.
