Lady Cougars Set to Tee Off at South Coast Classic

College of the Canyons women's golf will tee off in its first tournament of the season beginning Sunday, August 26 at the annual two-day South Coast Classic in Ventura.

Day one of the event will be played at Olivas Links Golf Course, and serve as the final pre-season exhibition round for the Lady Cougars. Tee time is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

On Monday, Aug. 27, the 2018 campaign officially gets underway at Buenaventura Golf Club, with that round also serving as the first Western State Conference (WSC) event of the year. Tee time is scheduled for 7:30 a.m.

Two weeks later, the Cougars will take a swing at the WSC event being played at Santa Barbara Golf Club. The tournament will also provide a preview of the course layout for this year's WSC Finals, which will be played at the same venue.

Canyons is scheduled to host a WSC tourney of its own on Wednesday, Oct. 10, with that course location yet to be finalized.

The regular season concludes at the two-day WSC Finals Oct. 28-29, in Santa Barbara.

A Look Back: 2017 Cougar Women's Golf

After a two-year hiatus, the College of the Canyons women's golf made it back to the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships to cap another successful season for head coach Gary Peterson and the Cougars.

Canyons finished runner up to Santa Barbara City College at the Western State Conference (WSC) Finals at Kern River golf course. COC freshmen JoJo Roecker and Gina Chung were both named to the All-WSC team.

The Cougars then carded a third place finish at the CCCAA Southern California Championships at Temecula Creek Inn Golf Course to snag a state tourney qualifying spot. Roecker placed fifth at that event with a two-day score of 157 (77/80) to represent COC's top individual finish.

At the state championships, Canyons took the seventh spot with a two-day team score of 706 (364/342) at Morro Bay Golf Course. Roecker finished day one tied for fifth, and eventually placed ninth overall with a two-day score of 153 (77/76). That mark left her just four strokes short of earning All-State Team honors.
