BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — College of the Canyons freshman Haruka Koda fired a round of 70 to earn medalist honors and lead the Lady Cougars to a third straight Western State Conference (WSC) tourney victory on Monday at Kern River Golf Club.
Koda was followed by fellow freshman Jessie Lin in the No. 2 spot with her round of 71.
Koda and Lin have combined to win medalist honors in each of COC's first three conference events. Lin received the honor during last week's WSC event in Santa Barbara, while Koda was medalist at the WSC Neutral event in week one.
Gina Chung and Paige Heuer both finished with identical rounds of 76 to finish tied for fourth in the individual standings.
Those two scores rounded out the Canyons top-four for a final team score of 293.
The Lady Cougars finished the event 42 strokes ahead of second place Santa Barbara City College (335).
Bakersfield College (343) took third in the field of six teams.
Canyons will next compete at the Morro Bay Invitational Sept. 23-24. The annual event attracts a field of teams from both the north and south regions, while providing a preview of the course that will host this year's CCCAA state championship event.
