Canyons Competes at WSC Bakersfield Tourney

BAKERSFIELD — College of the Canyons competed in its second tourney of the young season, taking a fourth in the field, after a card-off, on day in which the Cougars were forced to play under scorching temperatures and harsh conditions.
Canyons (403) tied with Citrus College (403) but had a higher individual score in its final spot.
Antelope Valley College won the event held at Sundale Golf Club with a four-player score of 375. Bakersfield College took second at its home tourney, at 384.
AVC has now won the first two Western State Conference (WSC) events.
COC freshman Nisha Gaulke finished with a round of 87 to place fourth in the individual standings.
Tyra Boozer was eighth in the individual standings. The freshman ended the day at 99.
Freshmen Delaney Hollinger (107) and Ashley Cortez (110) made up the final two scores for Canyons.
COC sophomore Marie Naud and freshman Samantha McCray both competed, but were forced to withdraw from competition.
The Cougars will next play in the WSC event hosted by Santa Barbara City College. Action is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. at Alisal River Golf Club.
