Maxwell and Menendez Earn Medalist Honors, Canyons Continues Undefeated Streak

SANTA MARIA — Brooke Maxwell turned in her best round of the season to tie with teammate Carla Menendez for medalist honors at College of the Canyons remained undefeated in conference play at the Western State Conference (WSC) event hosted by Allan Hancock College at Santa Maria Country Club on Monday.
Maxwell's four-over par round of 76 topped her previous low round of 82 recorded at the season-opening event held at Santa Barbara Golf Course on Sept. 12. The freshman has now finished in the top-10 of the individual standings on four occasions this season.
Menendez equaled Maxwell's effort with her own round of 76 to earn at least a tie of medalist honors for the third straight conference tournament. She previously tied for the tourney top spot at the WSC event held at Antelope Valley Country Club on Oct. 5, as well as the neutral event played at Woodley Lakes on Oct. 3.
Motoko Shimoji, who was the medalist at last week's prestigious North-South Invitational in Morro Bay, finished tied for fourth in the field of 34 with her round of 80.
COC freshman Flora Peugnet tied for sixth overall after heading to the clubhouse at 86.
Canyons finished with a four-player team score of 318 to easily outpace Bakersfield (353) and host Allan Hancock (374) in the top three spots. Moorpark (376) was close behind in fourth, followed by Citrus (379) and Antelope Valley (405).
The Cougars will look to continue its undefeated conference streak at Rio Bravo Country Club in Bakersfield on Monday, Oct. 24.
