No. 3 Canyons Eliminated from Postseason by No. 14 SBCC

No. 3 College of the Canyons was eliminated from the 2016 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regional Playoffs after being upset 1-0 by No. 14 Santa Barbara City College on Saturday, Nov. 19, at the new COC soccer facility.
Canyons (12-4-4, 6-0-2) continued its late season offensive drought by failing to score for the third time in the last four games.
Instead, SBCC (13-6-1, 6-3-1) took the lead in the 32nd minute of play when Sarah Vail redirected a ball sent in by Chloe Montao which lifted just over the outstretched arm of COC goalkeeper Kianna Hemphill.
The goal marred an otherwise strong night in net for Hemphill (14-4-3) who registered eight saves in the contest.

COC sophomore midfielder Monica Blackstock registered a game-high seven shots on the evening. Jackie Mendez, Daphne Coffey and Angel Quintero each recorded two apiece.
In 2016, the Lady Cougars concluded the regular season as champions of the newly formed Western State Conference (WSC), East Division for the first time in program history.
Prior to this season the Lady Cougars competed in the WSC, South Division, winning conference titles in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 — all under head coach Justin Lundin.
