Canyons stays unbeaten with 3-1 win over Evergreen Valley

VENTURA, Calif. — The College of the Canyons women's soccer team finished off its strong showing at the Nike Soccer Community College Showcase with a 3-1 victory over Evergreen Valley College on Saturday.

COC struck first in the 21st minute, when freshman Kylia Bradford was able to score on a header off of a cross-pass from Angel Quintero, giving the Cougars the early advantage.

Canyons took the 1-0 lead into halftime but EVC would answer back in the second half as Juliana Detar was able to bury one for the Hawks, evening things at 1-1 in the 53rd minute.

The tie would not last long though, in the 56th minute Bradford was able to net her second goal of the game off of a pass from Crystal Sanchez, and the Cougars retook the lead 2-1.

Canyons completely shut the door in the 82nd minute, adding one more goal on a Kiara Gunn ball that made its way to the back of the net and put the score at 3-1. Quintero was credited with her second assist of the game.

The victory extends COC's winning streak to three games to open the season.

The Cougars will put that streak on the line when they compete in the annual Las Positas College tournament Sept. 7-8.

COC will face Santa Rosa College at 6 p.m. on Thursday, followed by a scheduled matchup with Las Positas on Friday.
