College of the Canyons picked up its fifth straight victory after defeating the visiting Citrus College Owls with a 4-0 result on Friday.
Citrus (8-3-2, 3-1-1) nearly held Canyons (8-3-1,5-0-1) to a scoreless first half, but freshman Rebekah Brooks was able to power one past Citrus's goalkeeper Deziree Valdez in the 44th minute with an assist from freshman Lizeth Gutierrez-Cervantes.
With a 1-0 lead at halftime, the Cougars pressed on to increase their advantage.
COC sophomore Maggie Maldonado initiated the scoring in the second half with her fourth goal of the season in the 53rd minute. Brooks was quick to follow in the 63rd minute with her second of the match and 11th on the season.
Citrus fought to get on the board, but all attempts were shut down by COC goalkeeper Kylie Yuzon (2-2-1). The freshman recorded a full 90 minutes in net, with three saves on the game, picking up another victory.
COC's Katie Russell, assisted by Brooks, put the last goal away in the 86th minute to solidify a 4-0 win over the Owls.
