Women's Soccer Wins Program's 12th WSC, South Championship
Canyons(12-4-1, 9-1-1) wrapped its conference crown with a 7-0 victory over West L.A. on 'Sophomore Night'.

College of the Canyons women's soccer is back on top after claiming the program's 12th Western State Conference (WSC), South Division championship, and first since 2017, while clinching a postseason trip for the 10th straight season.
Canyons (12-4-1, 9-1-1) wrapped its conference crown with a 7-0 'Sophomore Night' victory over visiting West L.A. College on Friday night.
The win, which came in the Cougars' regular season home finale, was the fourth straight for the Canyons and ninth in the last 10 outings. COC has now outscored its opponents by a 19-1 margin over its last four matches.
Analise Rappe scored the first goal of the contest in the sixth minute on an unassisted strike that got the Cougar faithful excited early.
COC sophomore and two-year starter Maggie Maldonado, playing in her final home game as a Cougar, added a goal in the 8th minute to put Canyons ahead 2-0 in the early going. The score was Maldonado's sixth of the season.
Rappe added her second score of the night in the 11th minute to bring her season total to five and put Canyons firmly in control at 3-0.
Freshman Rebekah Brooks scored her team-leading 18th goal in the 16th minute. Brooks now ranks second in the WSC and 14th in the state in goals scored. Her 40 points on the season is third in the WSC.
Isabella Montiforte netted her first goal of the season in the 20th minute and Sarah Allen added to the assault with her fourth goal of the year in the 25th minute.
Canyons took a 6-0 lead into the second half behind the scoring blitz.
COC goalkeeper Zoe MacDonald did her part, recording two saves to earn the shutout win.
The Cougars added a final scoring play in the 78th minute with Lauryn Bailey's seventh of the year, giving Canyons a 7-0 final score.
The conference title is the eighth for COC head coach Justin Lundin who is in his 13th year at the helm of the program.
Prior to the contest a brief pre-game 'Sophomore Night' ceremony was held honoring the program's sophomores and freshman who will be transferring on at season's end. They include: Maldonado, Montiforte, Rappe, Cristina Aranda, Shelby Cooper and Giselle Sayan.
With one regular season game remaining on the schedule Canyons will take to the road to face Citrus College at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9.
