College of the Canyons came up short in a 6-3 home loss to Santa Monica College on Thursday, despite the Cougars winning three singles matches.

Marisa Wambolt, Leilani Figalan and Brienna Best each emerged from singles competition with victories for COC. Genises Ordonez also had a good outing before narrowly dropping her matchup.

Those results helped COC knot up the match at 3-3 heading into doubles action. However, the Cougars were unable to net a doubles victory on the day.

COC had been looking to get even with the Corsairs after suffering a tough 5-4 road loss to SMC back on Feb. 8

Thursday's loss dropped the Cougars to sixth place in the eight-team Western State Conference.

Canyons is now one game back of the fifth place Corsairs in the conference standings, with five regular season matches remaining on the schedule. Glendale College (11-2) currently leads the WSC.
