Cougars Upset Cypress In First Round of the Playoffs
Tenth seed College of the Canyons upset No. 7 Cypress College 3-1 on Tuesday night in the first round of the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs at Cypress College.
CYPRESS, Calif. – Tenth seed College of the Canyons upset No. 7 Cypress College 3-1 (13-25, 25-22, 25-15, 25-17) on Tuesday night in the first round of the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs at Cypress College. The Cougars will now travel to Grossmont College for the second round. The Griffins were named the No. 2 seed and enter with a 26-3 record.
The Cougars dropped the first set 25-13, but rallied back to win the next three sets.
Freshman outside hitters Serena LeDuff and Lauren Underwood paced the offense with 18 kills apiece, while Underwood hit a team high .432. Sophomore setter Jordan Carter chipped in 45 assists and 11 digs. Sophomore libero Cassidy Fitzpatrick led the defense with 22 digs and Carter, Sage Hernandez and Camari McWright had two blocks each.
Canyons will travel to Grossmont College on Saturday, Nov. 30 for a 6 p.m. match. Tickets for the event can only be bought at the gate.
