Canyons Outlasts Citrus for Second Conference Win
Sophomore Setter Taylor Kasha posts 43 assists to go along with three kills
GLENDORA, Calif. — A valiant effort from Citrus College wasn't enough to keep the College of the Canyons women's volleyball team from picking up its sixth straight win on Wednesday, with the Cougars scraping by 3-2 (28-30, 25-15, 23-25, 25-18, 15-9).
The win was due in no short part to the play of do-it-all playmaker Serena LeDuff, who finished with 24 points on 22 kills and 22 digs.
Fellow COC teammate Brooke Garelick tallied 15 kills and 17.5 total points of her own in the win, which gave the Cougars a 2-0 record in WSC South play and moved the team to 10-3 on the year.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Reiner finished the match with eight kills, while Lauren Underwood was next on the list with seven kills. Erica Magee added six kills and three digs, while setter Taylor Kasha racked up an impressive 43 assists to go along with three kills and five digs.
After beginning the season 1-2, the Cougars have won nine of their last ten matches and earned a state ranking of No. 19, according to the most recent California Community Colleges Women's Volleyball Coaches Association poll.
Before its contest with Citrus, COC had played five straight matches without dropping a set. The Cougars have also posted an impressive 4-1 road record. Canyons has more than twice as many kills as it does errors, with 587 kills compared to just 287 errors.
Canyons will next face conference opponent Glendale College on the road at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15.
