No. 5 Cougars Defend the Den in 3-0 Win Over Glendale
COC posts nine aces and 56 digs in the match, without allowing a single ace from the Vaqueros.
The No. 5 College of the Canyons women's volleyball team defeated visiting Glendale College 3-0 (25-8, 25-8, 25-14) on Friday night, to earn a fourth straight conference victory.
The Cougars (14-2, 4-0) were just too much for Glendale as they hit a combined .472 for the match with 50 kills.
COC also had nine aces and 56 digs, without allowing a single ace from Glendale. The victory also represented the cleanest match that Canyons has played this season, with the Cougars only committing 11 unforced errors in three sets.
COC was led by freshman middle hitter Alexa Hesseldenz who posted a match-high 12 kills and a .526 hitting percentage.
COC sophomore outside hitter Brooke Garelick complimented her former West Ranch High School teammate, Hesseldenz, with 10 kills of her own and a .444 hitting percentage. Garelick also added eight digs for the Cougars.
Canyons freshman outside hitter Emily Bible added eight kills and hit .571. COC sophomore opposite hitter Alize Bricot also had eight kills.
Freshman Ashley Sargent led the team with a .714 hitting percentage with five kills and committed no hitting errors.
COC sophomore libero Chelsea Corn led the Cougars with 11 digs on the match.
Canyons sophomore setter Katie Rutecki, the week six Western State Conference Player of the Week, led the match with 28 assists.
Canyons will next travel to face Santa Monica College (10-7, 4-0) at 6 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 21.
