No. 14 College of the Canyons played its final regular season home match on Friday, with the Lady Cougars claiming a 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-21) victory over L.A. Mission College on 'Sophomore Night' at the Cougar Cage.
Canyons (19-4, 6-1) currently sits in second place in the Western State Conference (WSC), South Division, one game behind Bakersfield College with just one game remaining.
On Friday, COC was able to edge the Eagles 25-22 in the first set after a back-and-forth affair that saw both teams relinquish leads.
Canyons gained the momentum for good in the second set as the Eagles committed five errors and hit just .094.
The Lady Cougars posted a combined .320 kill percentage in the match, including a team-high individual mark of .619 from freshman Emily Burns.
Burns also led the team with 13 kills to go with three aces, a block and seven digs.
The Eagles continued to struggle in the third set, with Canyons eventually able to close things out by way of a 25-21 score to complete the 3-0 sweep.
Freshman Daniella Villano ranked second on the team with 12 kills, and added eight digs. Freshman Rachel Perez finished with 28 assists and nine digs. Demi Dawson led the team with 11 digs.
Sophomore Erica Tzic added three aces and eight digs, while fellow sophomore Ashley Sargent had two kills, two digs and an ace.
The No. 15 ranked Renegades will host COC at 6 p.m. on Wednesday in the regular season finale.
A win over Bakersfield on Wednesday would put Canyons in a tie for the conference title.
Canyons entered the season winner of back-to-back-to-back conference championships.
