No. 3 Canyons Sweeps Antelope Valley in the Cougar Cage

No. 3 College of the Canyons rolled to an easy victory by downing Antelope Valley in straight sets at the Cougar Cage on Wednesday. Set scores were 25-15, 25-14, 25-14.

COC sophomore Emily Burns had another strong match for the Cougars collecting 19 kills on a .516 hitting night. Rachel Perez dished out 32 assists to help drive the offense, as COC out-hit its opponent .397 to -.148.

With such an advantage, Canyons (19-4, 6-0) was able to make short work of the Marauders (4-11, 2-4)

COC led the match in every major statistical category, collecting more kills (42-18), digs (36-30), aces (12-4), and assists (40-14).

Set one started with Canyons falling behind early until the Cougars put together a 9-0 run behind the strong serving of Burns. Caroline Page chipped in two aces in the set as the Cougars finished on a 20-9 run.

Set two started and ended with a Page ace. In between, Morgan Ferguson had three blocks and Toni Bido had three kills as the Cougars once again dominated the set.

The final set started off strong with an ace from Perez. Midway through the set, the Cougars won a long rally, chasing and recovering the ball near the back wall, eventually winning the point and capturing the momentum for the rest of the set. The match ended on an ace from Kelsey Strong.

The Cougars will next travel to L.A. Mission College at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3.
