College of the Canyons found its winning form in a major way on Wednesday, as the Cougars put together a 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-22) sweep over No. 4 state ranked Long Beach City College at the Cougar Cage on Wednesday.

Canyons (4-3) had lost three of its last four matches heading into the meeting vs. LBCC.

The Cougars seemed to find an early rhythm, with COC hitting .312 as a team compared to just .140 for the Vikings. Canyons also forced LBCC into 24 errors, compared to just seven for the home side. COC won the service battle, dialing up eight aces compared to just three for Long Beach.

Canyons sophomore Shayla Johnson had a team-high nine kills to go with two aces and seven digs.

Elizabeth Gannon had a game-high 20 digs, while freshman middle blocker Grace Ferguson had eight kills and a combined nine blocks in the game.

COC will like to build on its momentum when the Lady Cougars compete at the annual El Camino College Three-Way on Sept. 14. Canyons is slated to play in three matches in a tournament expected to attract some of the top programs in the state.
