Canyons Cross Country Finishes Season at State Meet

FRESNO, Calif. — The Cougars cross country program completed the 2019 season with a final run at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships in Fresno. The event marked the first time since 2016 that both College of the Canyons cross country programs competed at the state meet.

COC's men's team ran to an 18th place result on the four-mile course at Woodward Park with freshman David Salazar (28th/21:22.4) leading the way.

Freshman Tarek Khezri (61st/21:57.1) and sophomore Mauricio Abrego (133rd/22:54.8) took the next two scoring spots for Canyons.

Mathew Liebman 139rd/23:01) and Brannon Barber (149th/23:23.2) also factored into the COC team score. 

San Diego Mesa (37) won the state championship ahead of American River College (65), Mt. San Antonio College (141) and Glendale College (174).

Canyons freshman Diana Perez (68th/20:31.3) turned in the top time for the women's team followed closely by Lauren Franco (70th/20:32.6) and Paris Camacho (75th/20:37.9).

Sarah Zumudio (141st/22:16.5) and Jisselle Lomeli (161st/23:50) rounded out the scoring for COC.

Glendale (66) won the women's race with Saddleback College (113), Mt. SAC (142) and Hartnell College (145) following behind. Canyons finished 19th in the team standings.
