College of the Canyons student-athletes Hannah Tolentino (women's basketball) and Quincy Arms (men's basketball) have been named the COC Athletic Department's Women's & Men's Student-Athletes of the Week for the period running Jan. 23-28, 2023. Tolentino and Arms are the fourth set of honorees for 2023.
Hannah Tolentino/ Women's Basketball
Tolentino was superb in the Lady Cougars' 70-69 overtime loss at L.A. Valley on Saturday, leading all scorers in the game and finishing in double-digits for a seventh straight contest.
The freshman finished the night 10-of-15 from the field and 7-of-12 from three-point land for a season-high 28 points. She also recorded two assists, three rebounds and two steals in the game, with 16 points coming in the second half and overtime.
The St. Genevieve graduate is averaging 10.7 points and three rebounds on the season but has seen the numbers increase to 15 points and 3.9 board during Western State Conference (WSC), South Division play.
Quincy Arms / Men's Basketball
Arms stacked back-to-back strong performances for the Cougars, highlighted by a game-winning buzzer-beater on the road at L.A. Valley on Saturday.
The sophomore came off the bench to finish with 16 points, a rebound, an assist and two steals to help COC get past the host Monarchs by an 83-80 final score. But the highlight was Arms' three-pointer with just seconds remaining to complete a second-half comeback and snap a three-game slide for the Cougars.
Arms also contributed 10 points, three rebounds and an assist in the Cougars' 80-72 loss at Santa Monica College earlier in the week.
On the season, Arms, who attended Hollywood High School, is averaging 7.7 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.
