College of the Canyons closed out the regular season in winning fashion, taking care of Victor Valley College 12-1 at Cougar Field on Friday.

Canyons (27-12, 16-4) won 10 of its final 11 games down the stretch but finished a game back of conference champion Glendale College in the Western State Conference (WSC), East Division.

The Cougars continued to hit the ball well vs. Victor Valley, reaching double-digit run totals for the third time in as many games.

Blake Doremus put Canyons ahead 2-0 with an RBI-double in the first inning, then hit a two-run shot to center field that put the game at 5-1 in the second inning. Doremus finished the game 2-for-4 with a walk and four RBIs.

Calvin Estrada also homered in the Cougars' second to finish the season with a team-high 13 home runs and a state-leading .458 batting average. He was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs vs. the Rams.

Corbin Williams scored on a passed ball and Trace Eldridge recorded an RBI sac-fly that put two more on the board for COC at 7-1.

Eddie Rodriguez, Williams and Senituli Taufahema all recorded RBIs in the seventh inning to extinguish all hopes of a Rams comeback.

Ryan Bowlin's RBI-single in the eighth made it a 12-1 final score.

COC starter Jackson Cunningham (6-2) got the win after striking out eight Victor Valley batters and scattering five hits over six innings. He was charged with one earned run and issued two walks.

Devin Judge, Jarrett Poh, Cris Cruz and Connor Dreyer combined to pitch the final three innings out of the bullpen.

Canyons will now wait to learn its opponent in the first round of the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs.
