GLENDALE — College of the Canyons suffered a road loss in a tight 7-6 ball game at Glendale College on Thursday, narrowly falling to the conference leaders.
The Cougars (14-15, 8-6) offense worked to stay with the Vaqueros most of the game, taking the lead briefly in the fourth and fifth innings.
Glendale (25-5, 14-0) opened the game with a solo home run, but Alex Ballesteros' sac-fly kept the Cougars in the game with Tafton Hensley produced the club's first run.
Canyons held the lead for a few innings, before the Vaqueros caught up in the fifth and eventually retook the lead in the eighth.
Cougar freshman Kyle Cop opened for the Cougars, allowing four earned runs on six hits and issuing two walks to go with three strikeouts. Cop (4-2) pitched for four and 1/3 innings before Xavier Stoker took over.
Stoker (2-2) allowed three more runs on four hits, walked a batter and struck-out two, ultimately suffering the loss.
Canyons freshman pitcher, Malakai Correll (0-2) was last on the mound, working 2/3 of an inning in the eighth, striking out one batter and forcing the last out.
COC's offense was active seeing RBIs from DJ Kougher, Hensley, Mikey Kane, Andy Ambriz and Ballesteros.
