Cougars Return Favor, Down Cosumnes 8-2 in Series Finale

By Jesse Muñoz/COC Sports Information Director

For the second time in as many weeks College of the Canyons responded to a loss with a convincing victory, this time taking it to visiting Cosumnes River College 8-2 behind starter Gavino Rosales on Friday at Cougar Field.

Canyons (2-2) lost the series opener vs. Cosumnes (3-2) on Thursday by an 8-3 final score before returning the favor on Friday.

The two runs scored by the Hawks represented the season low for a team that had scored no less than eight runs in any game this year, including a combined 48 in the first three games.

Rosales (1-0) was fantastic in fanning nine batters threw seven innings of work to get the win. The sophomore allowed an unearned run but was otherwise unscathed by the Hawks' six hits.

CRC managed to get a run in the ninth off reliever Xavier Stoker but were otherwise held in check through the contest.

COC's lineup pounded out 10 hits with Colin Yeaman, Charlie Rocca and Ryan Camacho doing the bulk of the damage.

Camacho got things started with a two-run double in the first inning. In the fourth it was Yeaman teeing off on his first home run of the season. Rocca scored an unearned run in the sixth to make it a 5-0 advantage for the Cougars.

Later, it was Yeaman with a two-run two-bagger of his own in the seventh that put the Cougars firmly in control at 8-1.

CRC starter Nate Thompson (0-1) fared just two innings for the Cougars allowing three runs on four hits and a pir of walks. Grafton Shorts recorded a pair of hits and drove in a run to lead the Hawks offensively.
