Canyons and Ventura Set for Week Eight Showdown
The Cougars (6-1, 2-0) and Pirates (6-1, 2-0) will enter tied for the No. 4 spot in the most recent CCCSIA statewide poll.

College of the Canyons will remain on the road for a week eight matchup vs. Ventura College. Saturday's game is a Southern California Football Association (SCFA) National Division, Northern League game. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Canyons (6-1, 2-0), the defending Northern League champions, has won six straight games. In week seven, the Cougars executed a 58-10 road rout of East L.A. College.
COC sophomore quarterback Armani Edden finished the game a highly-efficient 12-of-17 for 214 yards and three touchdowns. Edden did not play in the second half. Instead, Cougars backup quarterback Michael Wilson took the baton and ran with it, guiding Canyons to 27 second half points. The sophomore made the most of his time under center with going 4-of-5 for 90 yards and two touchdown tosses and leading the Cougars with 83 rushing yards and a touchdown on five attempts.
Standout wide receiver Alonzell Henderson hauled in five catches for 121 yards in the game. Running back Kartilus McFadden led all running backs with 54 yards on nine carries with a six-yard touchdown run. Canyons racked up 547 yards of total offense and was 8-of-10 on third down.
COC freshman linebacker Jonathan Thomas recovered a fumble and added a sack and three tackles to his stat line. Courtney Chandler and Tyler Richardson tied for the team lead with five tackles each.
Ventura (6-1, 2-0) have won five straight games after a week two loss to Saddleback College. That game was played just seven days after Saddleback defeated COC in week one.
The Pirates came away with 55-20 victory over Moorpark College in week seven highlighted by three defensive turnovers and three rushing scores.
Canyons and Ventura are currently tied for the No. 4 spot in the most recent California Community College Sports Information Association poll.
COC is also No. 6 in the statewide head coaches poll, as compiled by the J-C Athletic Bureau. The Pirates check in at No. 5 in the coaches poll.
Canyons and Ventura last met during the opening round of the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regional Playoffs. The Pirates won that game by a 21-13 final score.
COC had previously defeated Ventura 31-7 during week eight of the 2018 regular season.
Ventura went on to play in the 2018 CCCAA State Championship game, eventually falling to 40-35 to Laney College.
Canyons had won a state-best 15 consecutive games dating back to week six of the 2017 season before falling to Ventura College in the opening round of the 2018 postseason.
