The No. 20 seed College of the Canyons men's basketball team had its season come to an end on Wednesday night, as the Cougars fell behind late and eventually lost 60-46 at No. 14 L.A. Harbor College in opening action of the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regional playoffs.
Canyons came out cold to start the game, falling behind 9-0 before scoring its first points at the 15:34 mark on a layup from forward Nick Howard.
The Cougars would settle down and find their rhythm soon enough, however, with Coley Apsay burying back-to-back three-pointers to lead a 7-0 run that put Canyons ahead at 20-19.
The Seahawks would tie the game on a free throw, and the two teams headed into halftime tied 20-20.
Apsay, an All-WSC First team selection, finished the first half with 10 points, and led all Cougars with 17 points to finish the game.
Canyons continued to play well to begin the second half, exchanging buckets with L.A. Harbor to keep the game within reach at 35-33 with roughly 12 minutes to go in the game.
The Cougars kept it close for another couple of minutes, but the Seahawks eventually opened up a 6-0 run to go up 41-33 with 9:33 to play.
Canyons would draw to within four points at 48-44 on a put back by forward Tullio Parry with just under four minutes to play, but could not make up anymore ground.
On the night, COC shot just 28.3 percent from the floor, compared to 40.4 percent from the Seahawks.
Parry, who also received All-WSC First Team Honors, finished the game with six points and seven rebounds.
Guard Victor Nwaba was COC's second leading scorer with seven points.
Sophomore forward Ricardo Greaves, an All-WSC Honorable Mention honoree, had a solid effort with four points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Forward Brenden Otero had four points and six rebounds.
Canyons finishes its season with a 15-13 overall record and a 7-7 mark in conference play.
