Recent College of the Canyons alumnus Zach Phipps is one of three student-athletes from across the state to be awarded a California Community College Men's Basketball Coaches Association (CCCMBCA) scholarship for the 2020-21 year.
Phipps is joined by Will Silmon (Allan Hancock College) and Noah Haynesworth (Skyline College) in earning the $750 CCCMBCA scholarship award.
Winners were selected based on a series of criteria including their academic achievement, athletic participation and involvement in other campus and/or community activities.
All candidates must have participated in men's basketball at a California Community College for two seasons, while completing at least 40 semester units or 60 quarter units with a GPA of 3.25 or above on a 4.0 scale. Each nominee was also asked to submit two letters of recommendation.

Earlier this spring, Phipps was named to the CCCMBCA All-Academic Team for the 2018-19 season.
Phipps earned his associate of arts degree in psychology, graduating with cum laude honors as a member of the College of the Canyons 50th Anniversary class. He is also a grad of nearby Saugus High School.
