Quincy Arms' Three-Pointer Gives Cougs 83-80 OT Win at LAVC

VALLEY GLEN — College of the Canyons outscored host L.A. Valley by nine points down the stretch to force an overtime period before sophomore Quincy Arms raised up on a three-pointer to push the Cougars to an 83-80 victory in the closing seconds.
Arms' big shot placed Canyons (11-11, 2-6) back in the win column after a tough three-game slide that included a pair of tight losses. The sophomore came off the bench to finish with 16 points after going 4-of-8 from three-point territory.
Andrew Henderson once again led the Cougars in scoring with 25 points alongside six rebounds, two blocks and a steal.
Dillon Barrientos had a game-high seven assists to go with 13 points and four rebounds. Jonah El-Farra continued a strong freshman campaign with 11 points and 10 boards.
LAVC (9-13, 4-4) was led by Sargent Jeffrey's 19 points and 13 rebounds. However, in the first half it was the duo of Manny Kapoushian and Andre Parris combining for 22 points and giving the Monarchs a 44-35 advantage at the half.
Canyons outscored its opponent 38-29 in the second half with Henderson scoring 14 points in the period. He added four more in the OT period.
L.A. Valley shot better than 52 percent for the game but were a paltry 11-of-28 in the second half. The Monarchs were also forced into 17 turnovers with nine coming in the second half and overtime.

Upcoming Schedule
Canyons is back at the Cougar Cage on Wednesday Feb. 1 for a 7 p.m. tip-off against the Bakersfield College Renegades. That game will be broadcast to fans free of charge on the Cougars Sports Network.
The conference schedule continues Saturday, Feb. 4 with a trip to Citrus College and a 5 p.m. tip.
