Cougars Rebound for Win at WSC No. 7

GLENDALE, CALIF. — College of the Canyons captured another tourney win as freshmen Jones Comerford and Michael Lotta finished second and third, respectively, in the individual standings at Western State Conference (WSC) No. 7 played at Oakmont Country Club on Monday.
Comerford fired a round of 74 to continue an impressive streak of individual performances. The freshman earned medalist honors at WSC No. 6 at Antelope Valley Country Club on March 12, with a season-low score of 69. He has not turned in a score higher than 75 in the last four conference events.
Lotta, who was competing in his first conference event of the season, finished with a round of 75 to place third at the event.
Clemente Yanes and Corey Haase were right behind the leaders with identical rounds of 76, while Justin Buenaventura added a score of 79 to round out the Canyons top-five.
Michael Lindgren also competed, but had his score of 83 dropped from the final tally.
In the team standings, Canyons carded a five-man score of 380 to top second place Ventura College at 394. VC sophomore Joey Herrera was the event medalist with a round of 69.
Allan Hancock College (403) was third after winning a tiebreaker with fourth place Glendale College (403) and Bakersfield College (405) took fifth.
The Cougars have now finished first in five of seven conference events. COC finished in second place at last week's WSC No. 6 before rebounding for a first place finish on Monday.
Canyons will next compete at WSC No. 8 hosted by Victor Valley College at Spring Valley Lakes Country Club on Monday, Mar. 26.
