GLENDALE — Nobuhiko Wakaari and Matty Wilson tied for third in the overall standings after both shooting rounds of 80 as Canyons won its second straight Western State Conference (WSC) event at Oakmont Country Club on Monday.
It was another cold and windy day on the links with each of the eight teams in the field turning in scores that were clearly affected by the conditions.
Canyons (409) won the event by outlasting a second place Ventura College (414) squad. Santa Barbara City College (429) was third followed by Antelope Valley (431) in the four spot. The first three positions mirrored the results which played out the season-opening WSC event a week ago at Valencia Country Club.
Bakersfield (455), Allan Hancock (462), host Glendale (471) and Citrus (481) made up the back end of the field.
Wakaari, the 2019 individual state champion, and Wilson set the pace for the Canyons contingent with the other three scoring players following closely behind.
Hugo Amsallem, Chayan Duha and Felix Schrott, who was making his 2020 season debut, each carded rounds of 83. Freshman Axel Einan, also seeing his first competition of the young season, finished at 87 but had his round dropped from the COC tally.
Canyons will return to action for WSC tourney No. 3 on Monday, Feb. 17 at Alisal Ranch Golf Course. Tee time is scheduled for 10 a.m.
