College of the Canyons men's soccer fell to visiting Fresno City College by a 2-1 score on Tuesday, as a late rally left the Cougars just short
Fresno took the early advantage on a Johnny Rodriquez shot that beat Canyons goalie Justin Socarras in the 25th minute, and it was 1-0 Rams.
One of the game's biggest moments came in the 36th minute when COC freshman Tyler Jovel was awarded a penalty kick that was stopped by Fresno goalie Andres Castrajon keeping the game at 1-0.
Castrajon also made a big save on a Caesar Dominguez header on the ensuing corner kick by Canyons.
Fresno was awarded a penalty kick of its own just four minutes later, as the Rams were able to cash in on the opportunity when Rodriquez buried his second goal of the night, making it 2-0 Fresno in the 40th minute.
Canyons put the pressure on in the second half, but was not able to beat Castrajon until the 89th minute when Isaac Dominguez came off the bench to get the Cougars on the board.
However, the Rams were ultimately able to hold on for the 2-1 victory.
COC (2-5) will have a week off before traveling to Santa Barbara City College on Tuesday, Sept. 26 for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
