Bio

Katie Taix is entering her second season as a volunteer assistant coach with the College of the Canyons softball program.

Taix is an alumna of COC where she pitched under softball head coach John Wissmath during the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

Before her collegiate career, Taix attended Alverno High School where she earned Pasadena All-Area Player Awards in 2015 and 2016, in addition to All-CIF honors.

Taix then moved on to play at Canyons, helping the program advance to the CCCAA Southern California Super Regional round of the postseason in back-to-back seasons. She was also part of the program’s 2018 Western State Conference (WSC), South Division Championship team that finished the conference schedule a perfect 16-0 and was later named an All-WSC Second-Team selection.

In 2018, Taix finished her COC career after suffering a knee injury. She then made the difficult decision to end her playing career, despite having offers to play at the four-year level, in order to focus on school, coaching and a burgeoning career in the fitness industry.

After leaving COC, Taix joined the softball coaching staff at Crescenta Valley High School and helped the Falcons win a CIF Championship in 2019. Taix then expanded her coaching resume by rejoining the Cougars’ softball program as a volunteer assistant coach under Wissmath, primarily working with the team’s pitchers. In 2020, Taix took an assistant position at Occidental College under softball head coach Kelliner Croushore. She currently serves as the team’s pitching coach and works with the team’s infield.

Taix is expected to continue coaching for both the Occidental and Canyons programs during the 2020-21 season.

At COC, it’s her goal to use her vast experiences to help individuals succeed mentally and physically, and have a positive collegiate experience on and off Whitten Field.

Taix also continues to offer softball pitching lessons in the Pasadena & La Crescenta areas. On top of her softball endeavors, Taix is an Extreme Boot Camp instructor teaching a military-style fitness class in La Cañada Flintridge with her longtime coach and friend, Jonathan DeTuno.

In addition to coaching, Taix is currently working toward a bachelor’s degree in sports industry management from California State University, Northridge.
