Swim and Dive Teams Fare Well At First Conference Meet of the Season
VALLEY GLEN, Calif. – College of the Canyons men’s and women’s swim and dive team captured third and fourth place, respectively, at the first Western State Conference Meet of the year at L.A. Valley College on Friday afternoon.
VALLEY GLEN, Calif. – College of the Canyons men's and women's swim and dive team captured third and fourth place, respectively, at the first Western State Conference Meet of the year at L.A. Valley College on Friday afternoon.
The men's team compiled 41 points, beating out Santa Monica College by three points. L.A. Valley won the competition with 82 points and Bakersfield College finished in second with 59 points. The women's team garnered 27 points. L.A. Valley College also won the women's meet with 90 points, followed by Bakersfield College with 49 points and third-place Allan Hancock with 27 points. Santa Monica College came in fifth after scoring 14 points.
Phillip Wong led the men's team scoring, after coming in first in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.56 and the 100-yard butterfly in 54.77. He came in second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.35.
Brandi Tyson came in third in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:42.86. She also had another third-place finish when she came in with a 1:12.14 mark in the 100-yard backstroke. Monica Hamilton added two points in the 50-yard freestyle after coming in fourth in a time of 28.75.
COC received a scoring boost from its divers. Peighton Hall and Luke Wesselhoff swept the men's and women's one and three-meter diving events.
The Cougars will return to action on Friday, March 14 as they head to their second conference meet of the season at Santa Monica College at 2:30 p.m.
