White and Ornelas Earn All-American Honors At State Championship Meet
The College of the Canyons men’s track and field team finished in 14th place at the two-day California Community College Athletic Association Track and Field State Championship at Mount San Antonio College on Friday and Saturday.
WALNUT, Calif. – The College of the Canyons men's track and field team finished in 14th place at the two-day California Community College Athletic Association Track and Field State Championship at Mount San Antonio College on Friday and Saturday.
Canyons turned in 23 points and had the top finish of any Western State Conference team. Riverside City College won the team title with 111 points.
Tim White leaped 7.41 meters in the long jump, for a third place finish and Rodrigo Ornelas crossed the finish line in the 10,000-meters in 32:22.84. Both men were named JC All-Americans for their performances.
Sophomore Anthony Fowler improved on his 2013 state championship result in the 400-meter dash and came in sixth place with his time of 47.98.
Sophomore Cody Moore tossed the javelin a personal-best 56.43 meters to finish in fifth place and sophomore Chase Wheeler came in 12th place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase after notching a time of 10:36.93. Ornelas also ran in the 5,000-meter run, turning in a time of 14:58.26 for a sixth-place performance. The 4x100-meter relay team (Matt Ringgold, Jeremy Gatewood, Robert Green and Tymon Jones) came in seventh place with a mark of 42.37.
Freshman Jasmine Hall was unable to compete due to falling ill.
