LIVERMORE, Calif. — The College of the Canyons women's soccer team extended its winning streak to five games by defeating Las Positas College 3-1 on day two of the annual Las Positas tourney.
The Hawks jumped out to an early advantage, as Rhiannon Adams buried one past COC goalie Jordan Burrow in the 15th minute. The 1-0 score marked the first time Canyons had trailed all season, having surrendered only two goals through its first five matches.
COC would trail for less than 10 minutes, however, before Crystal Sanchez struck on a perfect free-kick to tally her first goal of the season and even the score at 1-1 in the 22nd minute.
From there, Las Positas was able to weather the strong Cougar attack and keep the game at one goal apiece heading into halftime.
Canyons finally took the lead in the 61st minute, as Jennifer Rooney scored her second goal of the season off a pass from Sanchez, giving the Cougars a 2-1 advantage.
The Cougars were then able to put the game away in the 73rd minute when Kiara Gunn scored her fourth goal of the campaign from an Angel Quintero assist to keep Canyons undefeated to start the season.
COC will next travel to Chaffey College on Friday, Sept. 15, for a 2 p.m. match.
