College of the Canyons fell to visiting San Bernardino Valley College by a 2-1 final score on Tuesday, despite a heavy push from the Cougars to tie the match in the final minutes.
Canyons (3-2) and SBVC (5-2-1) were both scoreless in the first half before seeing the action pick up after halftime.
San Bernardino's Ferryn Koss scored the first goal of the match off a corner kick from teammate Jennifer Chavez in the 55th minute.
Later in the half the Wolverines doubled their lead with a goal from Anisa Rodriquez in the 85th minute.
With two minutes to go in the match, Canyons freshman Rebekah Brooks answered right back with her seventh goal of the season to cut the lead in half.
Brooks recorded 11 shots in the game, five of which were on goal. As a team the Cougars had some quality opportunities, outshooting the Wolverines 20-7.
COC maintained the momentum from there, forcing San Bernardino to defend one more Cougar attempt to tie the match. But a wide shot brought the scoring chance, and the game, to an end.
Canyons goalkeeper Kylie Yuzon (1-1) played a full 90 minutes recording four saves and allowing two goals, charging her with the loss.
COC travels to Santa Barbara City College on Friday, Sept. 24 to take on the Vaqueros (3-3) at 2 p.m.
