College of the Canyons played to a 6-0 shutout victory vs. visiting Bakersfield College on Friday, earning its first Western State Conference (WSC), South Division victory of the season.
Canyons (4-3-1) only needed a few runs to get on the board, with Katie Russell eventually finding the back of the net in the eighth minute.
Rebekah Brooks scored her lone goal of the game in the 30th minute to put COC firmly in control at 2-0.
Maggie Maldonado and Analise Rappe wrapped up the first half scoring flurry with goals in the 41st and 44th minutes, respectively, to head into halftime leading 4-0.
Rappe was not done, however, launching a long kick in the 71st minute, to move ahead 5-0.
Sarah Allen was the last to score for Canyons, this time in the 74th minute, for a 6-0 final score.
Zoe Macdonald started in net for the Cougars and earned the shutout victory.
COC will next host Santa Monica College at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5 in a conference match.
