It was another historic day on the court for the newly formed College of the Canyons women's tennis team, with the Cougars notching their first three match wins in program history before falling 6-3 to visiting College of the Sequoias on Saturday.
Canyons (0-2) started its season the previous day with a 9-0 loss to defending state champion Orange Coast College in the first women's tennis match in school history.
Marisa Wambolt, Leilani Figalan and Brienna Best each emerged victorious for Canyons in what proved to be another historic day for the Cougars. COC was swept in doubles action.
"Winning those three matches was exciting," said COC head coach Patty LaBat. "I actually think it helped for us to start by playing the best team in the state. Our girls were maybe a little bit in awe of them at first, but they won a few games and that got them excited, and started to build their confidence for the next match."
