COC Volleyball Wins a Thriller In First Match Of The Season
The College of the Canyons volleyball team opened its 2013 campaign with a 3-2 (25-15, 22-25, 25-19, 22-25, 15-7) non conference match over the Victor Valley College Rams on Wednesday night in the Cougar Cage.
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The College of the Canyons volleyball team opened its 2013 campaign with a 3-2 (25-15, 22-25, 25-19, 22-25, 15-7) non conference match over the Victor Valley College Rams on Wednesday night in the Cougar Cage. With the win, the Cougars start the season 1-0, while the Rams drop to 0-1.
After battling back in the fourth set, only to see Victor Valley win 25-22, Canyons dominated the fifth and deciding set after going up early, 10-5.
Freshmen Serena LeDuff and Lauren Underwood paced the team with 16 kills each, to go along with freshman Sage Hernandez, who also turned in double digit kills after tallying 10 kills, for a .304 hitting percentage. Sophomore Cassidy Fitzpatrick added a team-high 30 digs while LeDuff had 24. Sophomore Jordan Carter turned in 53 assists and 15 digs in the first match of the season.
The Cougars will remain home and host Moorpark College in another non-conference match up on Friday, Sept. 6 at 6 P.M.
