Cougars Go 3-1 At San Diego Mesa College Invitational
The College of the Canyons women’s volleyball team had a strong showing at the 28th annual San Diego Mesa College Invitational over the weekend, winning the consolation championship after going 3-1.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The College of the Canyons women's volleyball team had a strong showing at the 28th annual San Diego Mesa College Invitational over the weekend, winning the consolation championship after going 3-1. Despite losing to rivals Pierce on the first day of the tournament, the Cougars finished the weekend with three straight wins over Hartnell College, Palomar College and Moorpark College.
The Cougars were led by a combination of four freshmen. Outside hitter Serena LeDuff had 52 kills and eight aces, while Lauren Underwood added 35 kills. Middle blocker Sage Hernandez contributed 24 kills and 7.5 blocks, while Camari McWright turned in 5 blocks and 26 kills. Hernandez hit a team high .328, followed closely behind by McWright who turned in a .286 average.
The volleyball team will return to action on Friday, Sept. 27 as they host Ventura College at 6 p.m.
