EL CAJON, Calif. – The 10th-seeded College of the Canyons dropped a 3-0 (18-25, 17-25, 24-26) decision on Saturday night to No. 2 Grossmont College in the second round of the California Community College Athletic Association Southern California Regional Playoffs. With the loss, the Cougars finished the season with a 21-4 record, after earning their first conference title since 2000.
The Cougars stayed close in the first two sets, but allowed the Griffins (27-3) to control the offense. The third set saw Canyons have a 24-22 advantage against the home team, but COC gave up two set points and a four-point swing pushed the Griffins to a three-set sweep.
Freshman outside hitter Serena LeDuff paced the offense with 13 kills and two aces. Sophomore setter Jordan Carter dished out 25 assists to go along with her four aces, while sophomore libero Cassidy Fitzpatrick led the defense with 10 digs.
