Cougars Turned Away by El Camino
COC wins opening set, but is denied the victory
TORRANCE, Calif. — College of the Canyons took the opening set and played well in the second, before eventually losing to host El Camino College 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 11-25, 18-25) on Wednesday night.
The loss drops the Cougars to 1-2 on the season, while improving El Camino to a perfect 4-0 record.
Canyons registered 42 kills in the game, led by the consistent play of sophomores Serena LeDuff (14) and Lauren Underwood (10) and freshman Brooke Garelick (10) and Erica Magee.
However, that effort would be undone by the team's combined 36 errors. In comparison, El Camino committed just 21 errors to go along with its 44 kills.
Impressive COC freshman Katie Rutecki continued her streak of recording 30 or more assists in each of the team's first three contests. Keirstyn Anderson once again led the Cougars with 18 digs.
Canyons will look to get back in the win column during this weekend's Cerritos College Invitational, taking place Friday, Sept. 12 and Saturday, Sept. 13.
