CERRITOS, Calif. – College of the Canyons ended its first day of the Cerritos Tournament in impressive fashion, pulling out a hard-fought victory over Long Beach City College, 3 sets to 1 (25-11, 17-25, 25-15, 25-23).
Long Beach was able to pull even after the second set, however, the Cougars easily won the last two sets to preserve the victory.
Reigning Western State Conference Co-player of the Year Serena Leduff continued her top form with 14 kills on 38 total attacks, scoring 17 total points.
Defensive specialist Brooke Garelick also added 10 kills on 33 attacks of her own while Sophomore Lauren Underwood added eight kills on 26 attacks. Kaitlyn Reiner tallied six kills on 17 attacks and scored seven points.
Freshman Katie Rutecki registered another 33 assists to her season total.
The victory ups COC's record to 3-2 on the season.
