Canyons Goes Back-to-Back With 3-1 Road Win at Ventura
The back-to-back wins have propelled Cougars back into CCCWVCA Top-25 rankings,

VENTURA, Calif. — For the second time in as many outings College of the Canyons earned a 3-1 victory after dropping its opening set, this time coming back to down host Ventura College on Friday Night. Set scores were 17-25, 29-27, 25-21, 25-14.
It was déjà vu all over again for Canyons (4-5) which defeated No. 12 ranked Moorpark on Wednesday by a similar 3-1 (19-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-19) margin.
Ventura (4-7) did not go down without a fight, however, pushing the second set into extras and battling through the third before seeming to run out of steam down the stretch.
The Cougars did not hit at a particularly high rate, but did see two players reach double-digit kill totals in Kayla Tait (12) and Grace Ferguson (11).
Tait led COC in scoring with three aces and three block assists. Ferguson ended the night with seven block assists. Freshman Bree Kelley was next on the docket with seven kills.
Elizabeth Gannon led the squad with 14 digs and a game-high five aces. Sydney Higginson had a nice all-around game with 30 assists, eight digs, two kills, an ace and four total blocks.
The back-to-back wins helped propel the Cougars back into the California Community College Women's Volleyball Coaches Association (CCCWVCA) Top-25 rankings, released on Monday. Canyons is currently tied with Solano College (10-5) and Long Beach City College (5-5) in the 25th spot.
Canyons will open up conference competition on Wednesday, Sept. 25, with a trip north to face defending Western State Conference (WSC), South Division champion Bakersfield College. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
COC returns home on Friday, Sept. 27, for a match vs. West L.A. College. That contest is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
Fans should be reminded that all COC women's volleyball home games will be played at The Master's University located at 21726 Placerita Canyon Road in Santa Clarita. Admission is free.
