Brooke Petretti and Damon Barkus Named COC Student-Athletes of the Week

College of the Canyons student-athletes Brooke Petretti (softball) and Damon Barkus (men's track & field) have been named the COC Athletic Department's Women's & Men's Student-Athletes of the Week for the period running March 18-23. Petretti and Barkus are the 13th set of honorees for the winter/spring 2024 session.

Petretti had a sensational week at the plate helping the Lady Cougars to a pair of important conference victories and extending the team's win streak to three games.
The freshman out of West Ranch High School played a pivotal role in COC's walk-off victory over Glendale College on March 19, finishing that contest 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and three runs scored, including one in the seventh-inning comeback bid.
Two days later it was the shortstop Petretti going 2-for-4 with a double, two more runs and another pair of RBIs during COC's dominating 13-0 road win at L.A. Valley College.
Petretti is currently batting .382 with 29 hits, 27 runs, 17 RBIs and 10 stolen bases across 23 games.
Damon Barkus / Men's Track & Field
Barkus enjoyed an ultra-productive day at the Western State Conference (WSC) Inland Meet hosted by Bakersfield College on March 22.
The Antelope Valley High School product made his mark on the meet with a second place result in the high jump with a leap of 5'5. Barkus then claimed a second-place result in the triple jump with a mark of 11.83m/38' 9.75".
Barkus also placed fifth in the long jump at a distance of 5.81m/19' 0.75" and later recorded a throw of 29.53m/96' 10" to conclude the day.
His 19 event points helped Canyons finish second in the men's team standings.
